CLERMONT — A 14-year-old was killed early Friday morning after they were struck by a truck while the teen was walking on Route 9 in Clermont, Aaron Hicks, public information officer for state police Troop K said.

Police did not release any other information on the victim on Friday.

The accident occurred at about 4:53 a.m., in the area of 1972 Route 9, just north of county Route 8.

The victim was struck by a 2007 Ford F550 truck that was being driven north, Hicks said.

Police did not release any other information, including the driver’s name, on Friday.

Police said the victim was walking in the roadway when they were struck, Hicks said.

Columbia County 911 sent Clermont Fire Company and Northern Dutchess Paramedics to the scene.

The 14-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by Northern Dutchess Paramedics when they arrived.

Firefighters closed Route 9 to traffic, between the southern end of county Route 8, and county Route 31.

Route 9 remained closed for more than 5 hours, while the accident was being cleared, and while the investigation into the crash took place by state police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Police announced that the road was reopened just after 10 a.m.

New York State Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.

The investigation into the accident remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this crash or the events that led up to the crash, is asked to please call State Police at (845)677-7300. Please refer to case -11062503, Hicks said.

Friday’s accident was the sixth fatal motor vehicle crash in Columbia and Greene counties in 2022.

On June 15, a 37-year-old Schenectady woman died when the dump truck she was driving crashed into a vacant house in Ashland and burst into flame. The fire ended up destroying two houses and damaging a third home on Route 23.

A Dutchess County man was killed on July 31 after the motorcycle he was operating collided with a car in Copake. The man, 54, from Red Hook, died at the scene. The accident took place on county Route 7A at Tamarac Road.

A 60-year-old man from Kinderhook died after a golf cart he was driving in collided with a car on Route 9 in Kinderhook on Aug. 13. A passenger on the cart was taken to Albany Medical Center with injuries that were reported serious but non-life-threatening, police said.

A 24-year-old man from Coxsackie died Aug. 28, when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on Route 23A, in the area of Horseshoe Bend in Haines Falls.

On Sept. 14, a husband and wife from Columbia County were killed in a two-car accident in New Baltimore.

The husband, 90, and wife, 76, both from Hudson, died at the scene on Route 9W, following a head-on collision, just north of Route 144.
