A man whose “erratic” behaviour caused four children to hide in the backyard and his wife to lock him out of the home moments before he was shot by police has been charged.

Police attended a Liquidambar Place address in Stretton about 7pm on August 21, where they say they were confronted by the man, armed with a large metal-sharpening file.

The man allegedly ran down the slope of the driveway towards an officer before police fired at him.

The man’s three boys and one daughter, aged seven, nine, 12 and 14, and his wife were taken away from the scene.

The 43-year-old man was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

He remains in hospital, where he has been charged with one count of serious assault of a police officer while armed.

He was expected to appear before Richlands Magistrates Court on November 15.

The Ethical Standards Command investigation remains ongoing, with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
