Clark County’s recent COVID-19 infections experienced another week of decrease, while deaths hit double-digits in the latest report on disease activity.

Clark County Public Health’s Aug. 4 report included 153.2 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, down from the 170.1 per 100,000 reported the prior week. 

The case rate decreased for its second straight week. It has fluctuated between weekly increases and decreases throughout the month of July. 

The recent case rate statewide also dropped this week. As of Aug. 4, Washington had 206.3 cases per 100,000 population, down from 222.5 per 100,000 the week prior.

Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from July 19 to July 25.

The health department reported 742 new COVID-19 cases between July 28 and Aug. 4, slightly more than the 715 reported between July 21 and July 28. In total, there have been 102,060 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began.

Clark County Public Health’s Aug. 4 report included nine additional confirmed COVID-19 deaths and two deaths suspected to be due to the disease, compared to five confirmed deaths and one suspected death reported the prior week. 

The confirmed deaths included three men older than 80, three men in their 70s, two women older than 80, and a woman in her 70s. The deaths suspected to be due to COVID-19 included two men older than 80.

The deaths bring Clark County’s total to 882, including 761 confirmed and 121 suspected to be due to the disease.

The number of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital beds in Clark County increased. 

As of Aug. 4, 14.6% of beds had either patients with confirmed COVID-19 or patients awaiting test results, up from 13.5% reported July 28. The number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds occupied by COVID-19 patients was 20.4%, slightly down from 20.6% reported the week prior.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions also rose in the latest data. In its Aug. 4 report, the health department reported 12.2 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, up from 11.6 admissions per 100,000 population reported on July 28.

Total hospital bed occupancy in the county increased as of Aug. 4. The health department reported 97.3% of hospital beds and 95.9% of ICU beds in the county were occupied, compared to 96.3% of all beds and 93.2% of ICU beds on July 28.

Clark County’s statewide share of COVID-19 cases slightly dropped while its share of deaths stayed about the same as of Aug. 4 compared to the prior week. The Washington State Department of Health reported the county had about 5.9% of cases and 6.4% of deaths.
