Bristol Hospital is in the midst of a $5.5 million fundraising campaign aimed at moving the care provider’s campus to cleaner, renewable energy.

The projects include updating the hospital’s backup power system and moving to cleaner, renewable energy with two new generators on the roof; the installation of a fuel cell microgrid to reduce the carbon footprint; and the installation of numerous solar panels on the roof.

Kaitlyn Pratt, Bristol Hospital Foundation associate director, said a $3 million state grant paid for most of the costs. That leaves the hospital to raise the remaining $2.5 million, she said.

Pratt said the hospital is expected to raise about $250,000 from its three primary fundraising events this year. They are the Festival of Wine & Spirits, which was held May 14; the annual golf classic at the Golf Club of Avon on June 13; and the hospital’s annual ball, which will be held Nov. 19 at Aqua Turf in Southington.

Pratt said most of the funds needed for the project will come from community donors. The fundraising campaign began earlier this year and will run through this year and most of 2023, she said.

The updated features should be in place by the end of 2023, Pratt said.
